No CVS. No Target. No factory outlets. We do have a combination
Ace Hardware/Pharmacy, if you can believe that. We do have a few good restaurants, a ski resort, and even a Starbucks. It costs $5 to see a movie. So, life isn’t grim.
However, when I NEED something, and there isn’t a place to get it, that isn’t very pleasant. We DO have a Walmart, but I am against Walmart. Once in a while, I will go in there for something I NEED (and get some cans of Monster Mocha Coffee), but I do not like to give them my money.
Of course, there is Amazon, but I am not thrilled about that either. But it is a good place to find the things I NEED and (usually) get them delivered the very next day.
But the world is a cool place to shop. I mean, think about it — all the choices we have. I purchase tea directly from India, and it gets delivered in a week. I recently purchased a planner and a (small) watercolor from Australia. I have purchased art supplies from Hong Kong, books from the UK (and everywhere else for that matter), curtains from India, and a Mandolin strap from Ireland.
I have an Etsy shop, so I naturally gravitate there when I want to purchase something AND support a small business. There is some quality there — and with over six million shops, they usually have what I need.
I’m not sure what I am trying to say … maybe I jsut want to say that the next time you are going to run to Walmart to buy something for cheap that will have to be replaced in the not-too-distant future, take a look around the Internet and maybe, just maybe, you will find something BETTER that will NOT have to be replaced at all. Ever.
I even bought a chess set and storage box from (I think) Alabama, or maybe Arkansas — one of the “A” states (no, not Alaska) — and they have LAYAWAY. Remember LAYAWAY? My credit card took a beating during the Black Friday/Christmas season, so I used a layaway plan to keep my credit score from going down again.
That’s all for today. If you are reading this, you are probably the first reader I have had. So thank you! I will get the Registration function running one of these days, in case anyone wants to subscribe.
Peace.
